The Universal Sales Kit for private parties is designed for those individuals buying and selling cars, motorcycles, boats and other items of value.

If you are buying and or selling a vehicle and the transaction includes full payment at the time of the sale, you probably would only use the bill of sale and wouldn't have a need for the promissory note, security agreement or the security attachment.

As a point of interest, if you are a seller carrying or financing the note, remember to keep your name on the title as lien holder. The buyer will be listed as the registered owner for registration purposes with the DMV. Also don't forget to make sure the buyer has insurance - - we would recommend full coverage as liability by itself won't do you much good. As lien holder you should personally call the buyers insurance company and MAKE SURE IT IS YOUR NAME PLACED IN THE LOSS PAYEE SECTION AND IT IS YOUR ADDRESS IN THE NOTIFICATION SECTION of the policy. If there is an unforeseen collision you want to make sure the money comes to you. You also want any insurance cancellation notices coming to you so you will know if the buyer is in default on your loan and if you are at risk.
